Gritos de Feminismo en el Arte

A veces la vida es tan irónica que te puede llegar a dejar sin habla. ¿Sabías qué Menos del 5% de los artistas en las secciones de Arte Moderno son mujeres, pero un 85% de los desnudos son femeninos?

Aunque tanto la cultura como la sociedad han ido evolucionando, prácticas que posicionan el rol de la mujer como “mujer objeto” siguen estando presentes hoy en día en museos, campañas de publicidad, e imaginarios sociales.

Desde los comienzos del arte, se ha ido reduciendo a la mujer a “objeto” donde existe una tendencia sexista en la que la mujer está despersonalizada, sin identidad propia, en la que pone su cuerpo y belleza a disposición y servicio de la satisfacción masculina, mayoritariamente. La presencia de la mujer, figura como objeto decorativo y trofeo del éxito masculino. Mientras que, la imagen del hombre representa la autoridad, sabiduría y experiencia.

Los dos arquetipos clásicos que corresponden a la imagen de la mujer son: objeto sexual, rol de esposa, madre y ama de casa.Y, esto no es diferente en el mundo del arte.

En 1985 el Museo de Arte Moderno de Nueva York, realizó una exposición llamada An International Survey of Painting and Sculpture (Estudio Internacional de escultura y pintura), que contó con 169 artistas de los cuales solamente 13 eran mujeres. Esto llevó a que un grupo de mujeres con máscaras de simio que se hacían llamar Guerrilla Girls se reunierán para expresar y manifestar la desigualdad de género.

Este grupo era feminista y su estrategia era mostrar en público la discriminación que vivían las mujeres artistas, acusando directamente a las instituciones que mantenian esa practica.

Contó con 169 artistas de los cuales solamente 13 eran mujeres.

Pero ¿por qué máscaras de simios?

Esto es debido al personaje de King Kong que representa el dominio masculino. Este grupo logró desde su primera aparición, poner en evidencia la discriminacion y el desequilibrio entre los géneros, latente en todo el mercado artístico. Exponiendo desde críticos, coleccionistas, hasta artistas y propietarios de galerías.

Uno de sus trabajos más icónicos, se llama las ventajas de ser una mujer artista:

• Trabajar sin la presión del éxito.

• No tener que estar en presentaciones con hombres.

• Tener un escape del mundo del arte en tus 4 trabajos freelance.

• Saber que tu carrera podría mejorar después de los ochenta.

• Tener la seguridad que cualquier tipo de arte que crees será catalogada como femenina.

• No estar atrapado en el puesto de profesor titular.

• Ver sus ideas vivir en el trabajo de otros.

• Tener la oportunidad de escoger entre tu carrera y la maternidad.

• No tener que atragantarme con esos grandes puros o pintar con trajes italianos.

• Tener más tiempo para trabajar después de que tu pareja te abandone por alguien más joven.

• Estar incluida en la versión revisada de la historia del arte.

• No tener que sufrir la vergüenza de ser llamada genio.

• Poner tu foto en las revistas de arte con un traje de gorila.

En conclusión, a pesar de que el arte es un medio que cualquier ser humano puede utilizar para expresar sus ideas y sentimientos, también se ha visto envuelto en la desigualdad y la discriminacion hacia la mujer. Sin embargo, también ha empezado a dar muestra de que el grito contra las injusticias siempre encuentra una forma de hacerse visible.

Shouts of Feminism in Art

• Not having to undergo the embarrassment of being called genius.

In conclusion, although art is a medium that any human being can use to express his ideas and feelings, it has also been involved in inequality and discrimination against women. However, it has also begun to show that the cry against injustice always finds a way to become visible.
